Kodaly deliberately rejected any consideration of technical instrumental order, creating this Sonata solely for a few exceptional virtuosos, who have technique, stamina and genius.

Brussels, 24 February 1975...
Suzanne Ramon's record was a real revelation for me. It is a pity we don't have the opportunity to hear such interpretations more often. This Kodaly Sonata which seems by turns to exhaust and reinvigorate the technical and sound capabilities of the instrument, is performed with stunning mastery by this player.
The diabolical difficulties of the writing are no longer audible, the tone is consistently beautiful and the artist varies the colours amazingly. The ordering of her interpretation, the precision of her accents and her phrasing bring out the real music in this unique piece.
